Let's start with the documents to apply for a passport:
You’ll need to present one of the following original documents:
Certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the Civil Registry or a Mexican consulate (Original).
Certificate or declaration of Mexican nationality (Original and copy).
Naturalization letter (Original and copy).
You must also submit an original and a copy of an official ID that includes a photo and signature, and whose details match your nationality proof.
Accepted documents include:
Military service card
Consular ID
School certificate
Professional license or diploma
Naturalization letter
Citizen Identity Card
INE voter ID
Certificate of Mexican nationality
ID card from a public health or social security institution, among others
The Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) is another required document.
Bring a printed copy, and make sure it’s certified by the Civil Registry.

Online: Visit the official website of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

Now, here are the steps for each method:
The general steps are simple:
Gather your required documents.
Book an appointment at an SRE passport office.
Confirm the cost based on your desired validity, make the payment, and keep the receipt.
Arrive on time for your appointment.
Submit your documents and complete biometric data collection (photo, fingerprints, signature). They’ll let you know when to pick up your passport.
Arrive at the SRE passport office about 15 minutes before your scheduled time.
This is the most common way to book passport appointments in Mexico:
1. Go to citas.sre.gob.mx and select “Create Account”.
2. Register with your email and create a secure password.
3. Fill in your profile: name, CURP, and other required info.
4. Select the state and passport office.
5. Choose the validity (3, 6, or 10 years). You're eligible for a 50% discount if:
You're over 60.
You have a disability.
You're a temporary farm worker in Canada
If so, check the 50% discount box.
6. Pick the date and time slot available.
7. Wait for the payment form and appointment confirmation via email.
8. Make the payment and keep the receipt.
9. Bring your documents (birth certificate, ID, CURP, and payment receipt) on the day of your appointment.
This is the easiest way to schedule without leaving home.
Though less common, you can also call 55 8932 4827 daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Here’s how:
1. Call the number and press 1 when prompted.
2. A representative will likely ask for:
State and passport office you wish to visit.
Your CURP and desired passport validity (3, 6, or 10 years).
Email for appointment confirmation and payment form.
3. Confirm the available date and time.
4. You’ll get a confirmation email with a payment link.
5. Pay online or at a bank and keep the receipt.
6. Show up with your receipt and documents on the appointment date
The downside of this option is that the lines can become saturated, so you may want to try the following alternative.
The SRE has also enabled WhatsApp for booking passport appointments:
1. Save the number 55 8932 4827 in your contacts.
2. Open WhatsApp and make sure it’s the verified SRE account:
It has the blue badge that guarantees that it is an official and verified account.
The details match those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. Send a message like “Hola” to activate the SRE chatbot.
4. The bot will give you a menu, where you will choose the option that allows you to schedule your procedure.
5. Select the state and office:
Indicate the number corresponding to the state where you want to do the procedure.
Choose the delegation or municipal passport office most convenient for you.
6. Enter your Clave Única de Registro de Población (CURP) to continue.
7. Define the type of procedure (Passport for the first time).
8. Pick your desired validity (3, 6, or 10 years).
9. Remember that there is an option to get a 50% discount in case you apply. That is, if you are over 60 years old, have a disability or are a temporary agricultural worker in Canada.
10. Enter your email, and confirm before continuing.
11. The chatbot will show you up to four date options available; select the most suitable for you.
12. Keep an eye on your email, as you will be sent the voucher, payment form and additional instructions.
13. Make the payment and keep the receipt.
14. Go to your appointment with your payment receipt and all original documents at the agreed date and time.
